Major information
With the increasing demand for healthy and safe food in 21st century society, Applied Biotechnology is a key field to lead the bio industry domestically and abroad by promoting specializations in the fields of future biotechnology and eco-friendly agriculture. This major program includes industry-academia-research collaborative field training system to enable students to learn the identification of genetic characteristics and causes of diseases through new DNA analysis technology, discovery of bio-food and medicine materials, red ginseng and health functional food development, on-site gene identification technology development, and agricultural and stockbreeding product traceability management.
The program is designed to teach advanced biotechnology with a motto to foster talents with creative analytical skills specialized in agricultural life resources, field-based talents through systematic practical training, and global professional talents linked to local industries. In particularly, it strives to foster global international talent and produce experts in the life industry through on-site technical training in China, Japan, Mongolia, and Southeast Asia, dispatch volunteers of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA)’s overseas team, English education, and field training to Canada and the United States. Graduates play a key role in a variety of workplaces including domestic and foreign graduate schools and industries, venture companies, food and pharmaceutical companies, bio-centers, DNA analysis/gene identification companies, and national research institutes (Rural Development Administration, Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology, National Institute of Animal Science, rating agency, Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) institute, and GAP certification center).
